6 renette apples (strongly flavored apples)
1 tablespoon sugar
Peel from one lemon
Vanilla sugar (or vanilla extract) to taste
1 cup white wine
2 tablespoons light-colored jam
16 slices sandwich bread
3 1/2 tablespoons butter

Preparation 40 minutes preparation + 30 minutes cooking

Peel and dice apples.

Cook in a pan over low heat for about ten minutes, add sugar, lemon peel, vanilla and white wine.

Spoon in jam, stir well and remove lemon peel. Whisk until creamy.

Cut 4 slices of bread diagonally into 8 triangles and butter. Line the bottom of the cake pan with the bread, buttered side down. Do the same on the sides of the pan using more bread slices.

Fill the cake pan with apple purée and cover with remaining bread slices, buttered side up.

Cook in a preheated 350°F oven for about 30 minutes.

Remove from the oven and serve.
