Barilla® Penne Lisce

with Tuscan Sauce

Ingredients for 8 people       

  • 1/2 BOX Barilla® Penne Lisce
  • 4 TABLESPOONS (60 mL) Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 White Onion Chopped
  • 1 CLOVE Garlic
  • 1/4 CUP (63 mL) Dry Red Wine
  • 2 SPRIGS Fresh Rosemary
  • 2 LEAVES Fresh Sage
  • 4 OUNCES (114 g) Ground Beef
  • 4 OUNCES (114 g) Ground Pork
  • 1 CAN San Marzano tomatoes
  • 2 CUPS (500 mL) Water
  • 1/2 CUP (170 g) Pecorino Cheese

    HEAT olive oil in a large skillet

    Add onion, garlic, rosemary, and sage
  3. 3
    Sauté for 10 minutes over low heat
  4. 4
    ADD the ground meats and cook until the meat begins to stick on the bottom of pan, Deglaze with red wine and let mixture reduce well

    Discard the rosemary, sage and garlic clove

    Add 1 can of chopped San Marzano tomatoes to the meat sauce along with water

    SIMMER sauce mixture until water evaporates
  8. 8
    Season with salt and pepper to taste and set aside

    BRING a pot of water to a boil, add salt, and cook pasta according to package directions

    DRAIN pasta, toss with sauce and sprinkle with pecorino cheese
