This scratch made vodka sauce recipe requires very little ingredient preparation and yields a delicious creamy sauce. Garlic, onion, and pepper flakes are sautéed in extra virgin olive oil, and then combined with tomato paste, vodka, and cream. The tomato cream sauce is reduced and added to Al Bronzo Mezzi Rigatoni pasta and topped with freshly shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano and parsley for an enjoyable meal to share with friends and family.


Barilla Al Bronzo pasta is made by extruding dough through a bronze die that is micro engraved. This gives the pasta a rougher texture, allowing pasta sauces to perfectly adhere to our beautifully crafted pasta.

Ingredients for Mezzi Rigatoni Pasta with Spicy Vodka Sauce:

  • 1 box Barilla® Al Bronzo Mezzi Rigatoni pasta
  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup yellow onion, small dice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • ¼ cup vodka
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ½ cup Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, grated
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
  • Sea salt and black pepper to taste

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook pasta according to package directions. 

  • Meanwhile, in a skillet over medium heat add olive oil, onion, garlic, and crushed red pepper. Cook 2-3 min. then add tomato paste cooking an additional 2-3 min.

  • Add vodka and evaporate by half.

  • Add cream, salt and pepper and bring the sauce to a boil. Then add drained pasta and toss with the sauce for one minute. 

  • Top with cheese and parsley before serving.
