Mix up your weeknight meal routine with this delicious quick and easy pantry pasta recipe. In this recipe Gochujang, a spicy sweet Korean paste made from chilies and fermented soybeans, is combined with angel hair pasta, crispy bacon, shitake mushrooms, cabbage, sesame oil, and thinly sliced scallions. The whole recipe comes together in 30 minutes with less than ten ingredients.

*Note: Amount of pasta was reduced from 1 box to 1/2 box of angel hair.

Ingredients for Gochujang Pasta with Crispy Bacon, Shitake Mushrooms & Scallions:

  • 1/2 box Barilla® Angel Hair pasta
  • 12 ounces hickory smoked bacon
  • 1 small yellow onion, julienne
  • 2 tablespoons Gochujang paste
  • 8 ounces shitake mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups red cabbage, sliced thin
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 bunch scallions, thinly sliced
  • Salt to taste

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil, cook 2 minutes less than package directions; reserve 2 cups of pasta cooking water.

  • In a skillet over medium/low heat render bacon until crispy. Slice into bite size pieces and set aside.

  • In the same skillet sauté onion with the bacon fat. Add mushrooms, sauté over medium heat until thoroughly cooked and slightly brown. 

  • Stir in Gochujang paste, red cabbage and 1 cup of pasta cooking water, cook for two minutes.

  • Drain pasta reserving half cup of pasta cooking water and toss all together with the mushroom and cabbage mixture over medium heat for one minute.

  • Stir in sesame oil, crispy bacon and top with scallions before serving.
