Ingredients for Sweet & Spicy Heart Pasta:

  • 1 box Barilla® Love Heart Shaped Pasta
  • 1 cup Barilla® Marinara sauce
  • ½ pint cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 12 ounces sweet Italian sausage
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed 
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ onion, small dice
  • 1 red pepper, small dice
  • 1 yellow pepper, small dice
  • 2 Calabrian peppers, sliced (optional)
  • ½ cup Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, grated
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil, cook pasta according to package directions.

  • Meanwhile, in a skillet over medium heat add olive oil and cook sausage until brown.

  • Add onion, peppers, tomatoes, and garlic. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Sauté until soft, 2-3 minutes. 

  • Add Calabrian peppers to desired spice level and Marinara sauce. Cook an additional 2-3 minutes. 

  • Drain pasta and add to the sauce with ½ of the cheese. Mix well and top with remaining cheese. Garnish with parsley.
