Rotini with Spicy Chicken Sausage

Chicken Sausage is browned over high heat olive oil and chili flakes. The chicken is then simmered with San Marzano tomatoes and wine before being tossed with Protein+ Rotini pasta.

Ingredients for Rotini with Spicy Chicken Sausage: 

  • 1 box Barilla® Protein+® Rotini pasta
  • 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 sweet onion, small dice
  • 1 pound chicken sausage, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 28-oz. can San Marzano tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 cup dry White wine
  • ¼ cup Parmigiano-Reggiano, grated, divided
  • ¼ cup parsley, chopped, divided
  • Sea salt and black pepper to taste

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook pasta according to package directions.

  • Meanwhile, in a skillet over med/high heat add olive oil, sausage, and crushed red pepper. Cook for 4-5 min or until browned. 
  • Add onion and cook an additional 2-3 min. Add white wine and deglaze by half. Add tomatoes and cook an additional minute. 

  • Add pasta, half of the cheese and parsley to the mixture and combine. Top with remaining parsley and cheese.
