Ingredients for 8 people

  • 1 box Barilla® Whole Grain Penne 
  • ½ jar Barilla® Marinara sauce 
  • 1 clove garlic 
  • ¼ cup almonds 
  • ½ cup Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese grated, divided
  • 3 cups fresh arugula 
  • ½ cup + 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 
  • salt and black pepper to taste


  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil
  •  In a small pan, gently heat the sauce
  • Meanwhile, in a blender, add garlic, almonds, 1/4 cup cheese and arugula; pulse for 10 seconds
  • Slowly drizzle in olive oil while pulsing and season with salt and pepper
  • Pour the pesto into a large bowl
  • COOK pasta according to package directions
  • Drain, reserving ½ cup of the cooking liquid
  • Add the cooking liquid to the pesto
  • Add pasta and stir to combine
  • To serve, place a small amount of the warm Marinara sauce at the bottom of a bowl, top with a scoop of pasta and garnish with 1/4 cup cheese
