Why We Care
A Message from Our Leadership
At Barilla, we are committed to diversity and inclusion and the idea that everyone is welcome at our table. Our mission is to strengthen our company by living and breathing these values in our workplace, with our partners and with the millions of people we serve around the world. This passionate belief extends to providing equal opportunities across all aspects of our business, including our supplier relationships.
Over the last few years, we have made progress in our diversity and inclusion journey and as a next step are expanding our supplier relationships, beginning March 2018. We will ensure that diverse suppliers have an equal opportunity to engage in our procurement activities across our network.
Our universe of diverse suppliers includes those who fall into the following categories: LGBTQ-owned businesses; minority-owned business enterprises; small and disadvantaged small businesses; veteran and service-disabled veteran small business enterprises; women-owned small businesses; and businesses in 8(a) business and H.U.B. zones.
Among other initiatives, we are committed to:
- Establishing a best-in-class supplier diversity program and including diverse suppliers in all procurement requests for proposals.
- Mentoring and developing diverse suppliers by partnering with local Chambers of Commerce.
- Becoming an active exhibitor at national and local events of the National Minority Supplier Development Council Business Exchange. Barilla currently is a corporate member of the NMSDC and supports its program centered on capacity-building for diverse firms.
We emphasize that our immediate relationship with our suppliers won’t change. Our program simply seeks to ensure that all suppliers can participate in our procurement process. It is also critical that the values of our existing suppliers reflect the values of our company; we expect that our suppliers, even if they do not fall into the categories above, will honor their commitment to diversity by actively including certified diverse suppliers as subcontractor vendors.
We will measure our success based upon our ability to attain and exceed these objectives. And we encourage diverse companies to explore new supply opportunities with Barilla.
Our commitment to diversity and inclusion goes beyond adding new suppliers with fresh perspectives. It is also about embracing various backgrounds in a way that fosters real inclusion, enriching our working relationships and our communities. Thank you for joining us on this journey.
President, Barilla Americas
