One Pot Deconstructed Lasagna Orzo

Ingredients

Serves 6

1 1/3 Cups Barilla® Orzo pasta
1 Pound Italian sausage or ground beef
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 Yellow onion, diced
3 Garlic cloves, minced
1 Tablespoon Oregano
1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 Teaspoon Onion Powder
24 Ounce Jar of Tomato Sauce
20 Ounces beef broth
1/2 Cup basil
3/4 Cup ricotta cheese
1/2 Cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/4 Cup parmesan cheese, grated
To Taste Salt & pepper
To Taste [Optional] Garnish with fresh basil & red pepper flakes

Method

Step 1

In a large Skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and cook Italian sausage or beef until browned.

Step 2

Once the sausage is cooked through, remove from the pan; set aside. Add olive oil, onion, garlic, dried oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper. Cook until the onions are tender.

Step 3

Add tomato sauce, broth, and orzo to the onion mixture and cook for about 7-8 minutes until orzo has absorbed most of the liquid. Remove from the heat.

Step 4

Add the cooked sausage and basil, mix until combined.

Step 5

Separately, mix ricotta, mozzarella, and parmesan together until combined.

Step 6

Create small pockets in the pan and add the ricotta mixture. Top with more basil to garnish & enjoy!
