Ingredients

1Box Barilla^® Penne

5Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil divided

2Cloves garlic peeled and minced

2Teaspoons red chili pepper flakes or to taste

1Canned (28oz) Italian tomatoes peeled (may substitute with Barilla^® Marinara Sauce)

½Cup Romano cheese grated

1Tablespoon fresh Italian parsley chopped

Method

Step 1

Bring a large pot of water to a boil; season with salt.

Step 2

Sauté garlic and red chili pepper flakes with 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat for 1-2 minutes, or until slightly golden and fragrant.

Step 3

Stir in tomatoes and bring to a boil; simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 4

Season with salt to taste.

Step 5

Remove skillet from heat.

Step 6

Cook pasta according to package directions.

Step 7

Drain pasta; reserve ¾ cup of pasta cooking water.

Step 8

Add pasta and pasta cooking water to the tomato sauce; toss over medium heat until pasta is well coated.

Step 9

Stir in remaining olive oil, romano cheese, and parsley before serving.
