For the mac and cheese
1 box | Barilla Pastina |
3 tsp | butter |
1/3 cup | all-purpose flour |
1/4 tsp | onion powder |
1/4 tsp | garlic powder |
1 1/2 cups | milk |
1/2 cup | heavy cream |
1 pinch | salt |
1 cup | sharp-aged cheddar cheese, shredded |
1 cup | parmesan cheese, grated |
For the garlic rosemary breadcrumbs
2 tbsp | olive oil |
1 tbsp | butter |
1 cup | panko breadcrumbs |
3 | garlic cloves, smashed (to discard after toasting) |
1/4 tsp | salt |
1/4 tsp | black pepper |
1 tsp | dried rosemary |

Method
Step 1
Boil Barilla Pastina according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Step 2
In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes to cook off the raw flour taste.
Step 3
Slowly whisk in the milk and cream. Add onion powder, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens and bubbles.
Step 4
Turn off the heat and gradually add the cheddar and parmesan, whisking until melted and fully incorporated.
Step 5
Add the drained pasta to the cheese sauce, tossing until the pasta is evenly coated.
Step 6
In a small skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Add the smashed garlic cloves and panko breadcrumbs, then stir in salt, pepper, and fresh rosemary. Stir frequently until the breadcrumbs are golden and crispy, about 5 minutes. Discard the garlic.
Step 7
