Ingredients
Serves 8
1/2 | Box Barilla® Mostaccioli |
4 | Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil |
1 | White Onion Chopped |
1 | Clove Garlic |
1/4 | Cup Dry Red Wine |
2 | SPRIGS Fresh Rosemary |
2 | LEAVES Fresh Sage |
4 | Ounces Ground Beef |
4 | Ounces Ground Pork |
1 | Can San Marzano tomatoes |
2 | Cups Water |
1/2 | Cup Pecorino Cheese |

Method
Step 1
HEAT olive oil in a large skillet.
Step 2
Add onion, garlic, rosemary, and sage.
Step 3
Sauté for 10 minutes over low heat.
Step 4
ADD the ground meats and cook until the meat begins to stick on the bottom of pan, Deglaze with red wine and let mixture reduce well.
Step 5
Discard the rosemary, sage and garlic clove.
Step 6
Add 1 can of chopped San Marzano tomatoes to the meat sauce along with water.
Step 7
SIMMER sauce mixture until water evaporates.
Step 8
Season with salt and pepper to taste and set aside.
Step 9
BRING a pot of water to a boil, add salt, and cook pasta according to package directions.
Step 10
DRAIN pasta, toss with sauce and sprinkle with pecorino cheese.
Mostaccioli
Mostaccioli, known in Italy as "Penne Lisce," are a specialty of the Campania Region in Southern Italy, which includes the cities of Naples, Capri, and Sorrento. Penne are tube-shaped with angled ends cut to resemble a quill or pen point. Unlike Penne, which are ridged, Mostaccioli are smooth in texture.
