4 tbsp | extra virgin olive oil |
1 | white onion, chopped |
1 clove | garlic |
1/4 cup | dry red wine |
2 sprigs | fresh rosemary |
2 leaves | fresh sage |
4 oz | ground beef |
4 oz | ground pork |
1 can | San Marzano tomatoes |
2 cups | water |
1/2 cup | pecorino romano cheese |

Method
Step 1
Heat olive oil in a large skillet.
Step 2
Add onion, garlic, rosemary, and sage. Sauté for 10 minutes over low heat.
Step 3
Add the ground beef and pork and cook until the meat begins to stick on the bottom of the pan. Deglaze with red wine and let the mixture reduce well.
Step 4
Discard the rosemary, sage, and garlic clove.
Step 5
Add 1 can chopped San Marzano tomatoes to the meat sauce along with water.
Step 6
Simmer the sauce mixture until the water evaporates; then season with salt and pepper and set aside.
Step 7
Bring a pot of water to a boil, add salt, and cook Barilla Penne Lisce pasta according to package directions.
Step 8
Drain the Barilla Penne Lisce pasta, toss with sauce, and sprinkle with pecorino romano cheese to serve.
